Light Filter Fixture

Relation: National Science Foundation - HAMMER

Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

Skills: Mechanical design, CAD (SolidWorks), caliper measurement, tolerance control, split-clamp design, fixture design, FDM printing, prototyping, camera mounting, system integration

Background:
The goal was to place a light filter screen with an Amcrest camera’s field of view to view WAAM deposition. A secondary goal was to mount the camera to the frame while maintaining alignment.

Direct Contributions:

Designed a thermal filter case to sit in line with the camera lens

Chose a split-clamp design to secure the case to the lens instead of a slip-fit

Designed a mounting bracket that mates the camera to the frame

Added press-fit holes to secure the camera mount

Printed the filter case and mount on a Creality K2+

Removed supports, installed the filter case, drilled an alternate wiring pass-through, and mounted the camera using T-nuts

Outcomes:
The setup provides usable recordings of the WAAM print process and is used in NSF-HAMMER presentations.
